Sustainability

Every Meal Has a Story

Sustainability isn't a separate project at Anita Robin — it's simply the way I cook, host and welcome every guest. From the herbs growing outside my kitchen door to the local producers I choose to work with, every decision is made with care for people, place and the future.

This page tells you how. If there's anything you'd like to know about how I source ingredients or reduce my environmental impact, just ask — every booking starts with a conversation.

From Garden to Table

Whenever possible, I cook with ingredients grown in my own garden, including fresh herbs and seasonal vegetables. Honey comes from my own beehives, and many of the cheeses, preserves and specialty ingredients are sourced from trusted Fleurieu Peninsula producers such as Alexandrina Cheese and Peninsula Providore. Buying locally supports regional businesses while reducing food miles.

Cooking with Care

Great food shouldn't create unnecessary waste. Menus are carefully planned around seasonal produce, ingredients are purchased only as needed, leftovers are offered for guests to take home, and food scraps are composted wherever possible. Throughout the kitchen you'll also find biodegradable cleaning products, recycled packaging and a commitment to reducing single-use plastics.

Reducing Our Footprint

Since joining CarbonHalo in 2025, I've measured my business's carbon emissions and developed an ongoing Emission Reduction Plan. My business has achieved CarbonHalo Stage 3 Accreditation, with annual carbon reporting and practical actions to continually reduce emissions. These include LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, induction cooking, rainwater use, recycling systems and a commitment to further renewable energy improvements.

Always Improving

Sustainability is a journey, not a finish line. Through CarbonHalo I have set measurable targets to reduce emissions across all areas of the business by 10% by 2026 and work towards net zero by 2030. Every year I review my progress, measure my environmental impact and look for new ways to reduce it even further.

Anita Robin, honours the rich heritage of over 2,000 generations of Aboriginal culture, the world's oldest living culture. We deeply respect all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and their ongoing contributions to our society. We acknowledge that the land we inhabit, known as Australia, has always belonged to the Aboriginal people and will continue to do so. Our place of work is on the sacred lands of the Ngarrindjerri people, and we embrace its significance.
